Landscape of Exception as Spatial and Social Interaction Between High-Quality Agricultural Production and Immigrant Labour Exploitation

This Chapter analyses the spatial and social interaction phenomena between high-quality agricultural production and immigrant labour exploita- tion that produce the landscape of exception, a particular declination of the Agambenian (2005) “state of exception” concept. The landscape of exception construction mechanism is generated within South-Eastern Sicily through the productive system of greenhouses, finalised to the vegetables production. Landing through Informal Blue Infrastructures: the State of Exception in Planning

This paper explore the effects of great economic success in some rural areas of Southern-Eastern Sicily. This paper argue that in this context landscape turns into a "landscape of exception". In orderto explain by wich mechanisms oppression actually occurs, I will use Agamben's concepts. The case study illustrate that also the economic power can produce a system of rules wich are spatially localized, allowing it to reshape landscape by eliminating natural preserve zones and costructing elements of dominance and control.
